Frequently asked questions

Why should I have reflexology when I feel well?

Reflexology is just what you need when you are feeling well, because it will help you to stay well. The body is constantly trying to maintain a state of balance - homeostatis, but there are times when stressful situations arise, or you may come into contact with people who are suffering from coughs and colds, and the immune system may be challenged. Because reflexology is calming and relaxing , it helps to overcome stress, assisting in the maintenance of a healthy immune system.

Will I be safe to drive after a treatment?

If you feel very relaxed and possibly a little sleepy or light headed after a treatment, I will make sure you are quite alert and safe to drive before you leave. There is always time to rest after a treatment and having a glass or two of water helps to refresh you and "wake you up"!

Is reflexology safe during pregnancy?

Reflexology is not only safe in pregnancy but can be most beneficial in many ways. For example, high or low blood pressure may be normalized. Some other conditions or discomforts of pregnancy that may be relieved are - backache, oedema (swelling of the hands and feet), heartburn, pelvic discomfort and headaches.

Reflexology is useful at the end of pregnancy because it can assist in initiating labour if the baby is overdue. Labour can also be shorter and less painful following reflexology treatments. Some mothers have also found that the baby is calmer. During a reflexology treatment, the baby always moves and kicks, which can be quite reassuring towards the end of pregnancy, when the baby is less active due to restricted space! Reflexology is a wonderful support throughout pregnancy.

How can reflexology make a difference to acute back pain?

Reflexology is a very useful therapy for acute onset of back pain. It makes a difference by stimulating the circulation, bringing a good blood supply to the affected area, which helps to reduce inflammation. It is inflammation which causes pain, so when inflammation subsides, pain is reduced and healing can take place. When there is less pain, movement becomes easier and the body relaxes.

Can reflexology help alleviating painful conditions of the foot?

I have found in practice, that conditions such as plantar fasciitis, also known as Policeman's Heel, can be relieved and the pain reduced, from this condition. Massaging the foot before the treatment, helps to relax tension in the foot and in the body generally. Reflexology stimulates the healing process within the body, helping to reduce inflammation, which in turn reduces pain. A few treatments can speed up the healing process. By enabling the foot to move more freely, there is less strain and tension in the back and hip.
