Aromatherapy

The Treatment

A consultation is important in the first instance. You may have had an aromatherapy massage before and discovered an allergy to a particular essential oil, for instance. Time is available to discuss any health problems, either physical or emotional, and I can give advice on the home use of essential oils should you wish.

The oils used for each treatment may vary according to the needs of the person. The room will be warm and comfortable, with only the part of the body to be massaged uncovered. The oils will be blended with a carrier oil, according to your needs. Privacy and confidentiality will be maintained at all times.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is an holistic treatment using pure essential oils which are extracted from flowers, leaves, petals, roots or bark of trees. Their fragrances are diverse, ranging from floral, woody, spicy, citrus and herbaceous. It is a versatile therapy because it can relieve disorders of the body and the mind.

Aromatherapy oils are used in a variety of ways. They can be blended to make creams, used in a burner, a few drops can put in a bath, and also used as an inhalant to help relieve coughs and colds. Compresses with the oils can also be made.

Massage is the most usual and well known way essential oils are used. They are absorbed through the pores of the skin, and by inhalation. The fragrance of oils may even evoke memories for some people. It is a gentle method of healing and relieving symptoms of a wide variety of ailments.

How can Aromatherapy help?

Aromatherapy benefits the person as a whole, because it works on the psychological as well as the physical and emotional aspects of the body. It is beneficial as a way of dealing with stress related problems.

Many of the oils are extremely useful in bringing about a calm and relaxed state. Carefully chosen, they can uplift, relax, and inspire. Prolonged stress can deplete the immune system. There are oils that can help support the immune system, thereby aiding a return to health and well-being. Creams can be made up for some skin conditions and can be most useful for chapped hands, eczema, athletes foot, and sunburn. This therapy is very helpful for bringing balance to both mind and body.
